The motivation for Skrzynski’s career change was his family, including wife, Tammy, and two growing children that he would miss as he traveled around the world in his previous job. Marco Canvas had a solid reputation and a small core of talented people but improvements were needed in the way of additional technology, diversified product offerings and a sense of teamwork that would re energize the business. Skrzynski set out to offer all of these features. “When I first looked inside Marco Canvas I found an organization that was very individual oriented; what was missing was a team with like-minded goals,” he said.

The company’s vision is “creating more livable spaces,” which it applies to a diverse range of products for homes and boating. Fixed and retractable awnings, sun screens and patio enclosures, custom umbrellas, outdoor upholstery, all types of marine covers and a variety of custom metal fabrication are included in a wide range of offerings. Also playing an important role in the growth of Marco Canvas has been brand recognition for Sunbrella® brand fabrics, which is the company’s flagship offering. With all of the changes made since 2008, Skrzynski considers the creation of a production management system his single greatest achievement for Marco Canvas. ”
“With this system, if we have an order for a bimini top, for example, we now start by making a digital template that goes to our metals and/or fabrics department(s),” he said. “The frames are made at the same time the fabrics are being cut and sewn so one department is not waiting on another. This improved communication makes the product flow faster, more efficient and more accurate so customers can enjoy their new Sunbrella awning, patio or bimini top sooner. Skrzynski remains positive in his outlook for the business with an emphasis on increased efficiency and expansion of his digital library of patterns and exclusive product offerings. As his vision statement indicates, the focus is on offering a variety of products that “create more livable spaces” at home and on the water.

MC made a new Bimini top for their sail boat over one year ago from this letter. While walking the marina’s dock to work on another customer’s vessel we discussed their Bimini top had stitches that where coming undone. While stitches do not last forever we felt we must have gotten some thread that was not up to traditional quality. So we informed the customer of what was happening and that we would like to pull down the Bimini top and replace the thread and then reinstall it again at no charge! Most canvas shops would offer free replacement thread in one year or less from the manufacture but would charge for the labor to remove, replace and restitch. When my boating partner Rich contracted you to redo our ancient and moldy vinyl upholstery I thought it was a lot of money to put into a 10-year-old, 2006 Vectra Deck Boat S-215. A Florida vessel. You may recall that you picked them up, did the work, and reinstalled them about a month ago, yesterday I re-commissioned the boat after summer storage and for the first time I pulled the covers off. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with the grade of vinyl you used, and the workmanship is superior to most manufactures standards. I have been an active boater on the Great Lakes as well as the Gulf of Mexico for 28 years and while not an expert I am experienced. Our boat looks new again so it turns out that you have added value beyond the cost of the job. Thanks for being there.

So Wendy and I just had our first chance to see the interior – you guys did an AMAZING job – once the lights, teak and holly sole are in, it will basically be a brand new boat! There are little extras everywhere that we didn’t expect, you refinished the little panels in the closets, the pleating on the seats, the way you finished the half-round at the rear of the forward bunk, you ran extra wire for lights on the forward centerline – the head protector around the hatch opening - it really is a remarkable transformation. And you reinstalled our cabinets where you could, and replaced the mirrors so I could easily locate the screw holes. You did a lot of extra work that is very much appreciated. I have all kinds of “before” pics and will take pics for you when it’s done – probably be a couple of weeks since I have to go back north for work. This is absolutely one of those “before and after” jobs that show the quality of your work.
